Tackers 1 – Course Completion & Next Steps

Hi there,

Thank you for taking part in Tackers 1. We hope your sailor enjoyed their time on the water with us.

At the end of the course, your lead instructor will review your sailor's progress and provide a recommendation for what they can do next.

Sailors who have demonstrated the skills covered in Tackers 1 will receive their Tackers 1 certificate and may be recommended to continue to Tackers 2.

Some sailors may benefit from more time on the water before moving to the next course. If that's the case, your instructor will explain which skills would benefit from some more practice and recommend an appropriate next step.

Every sailor learns at a different pace. Our aim is to help each sailor continue developing their skills and confidence without rushing their progression.

If you have any questions about your sailor's progress or recommendation, please speak with their lead instructor.

Course Overview
This course aims to provide children aged 7-12 with a fun, safe and affordable way to get into sailing. 

Course Prerequisites

• Water confident
• 7-12 years-old

Who should do this course?

This course is designed for participants who wish to have fun and learn the basics of sailing through games on and off the water.

Course Outcome

By the end of the Tackers 1 course, the participants will be able to:

• Steer with tiller extension under towing paddling power
• Tie a figure 8 knot, round twice and two half hitches
• Tack (push turn)
• Gybe (pull turn)
• Reach around a figure of 8 course using both tacking and gybing
• Sail with tiller extension
• Sail upwind and downwind by following the safety boat

You will gain your Tackers 1 completion certificate.
