Thanks to the Ron Tough Yachting Foundation and the Mirror Class Association of WA for conducting their boot camp at Maylands Yacht Club on the 19th and 20th September. The windy conditions were testing for all participants.
Many thanks also to member Alan Benn for managing the support boat both days.
Saturday's session was followed by the Association's AGM. Well done to member Glenn Secco for taking up the role of Vice President of the Mirror Class Association of WA Inc.
Simon Barwood remains as President, Peter Judge as Secretary.
In addition to Championship winners, Consistency Winners, and Short Course Championship winners, the Club also recognises special achievements by members during the season. These members were awarded their prizes on Opening Day:
SPECIAL MENTIONS FROM 2019/20 SEASON
Junior of the Year – Congratulations Scarlett Sibbel for showing great tenacity and calm sailing with grumpy ol’ Doug! Seriously, Scarlett sailed consistently throughout the season, winning 3 of the State Championship races. She is also delightful company who is always smiling and willing to help others around the Club.
Rookie of the Year – Congratulations to Lucas Deshon for showing great skill development and being a keen trainee sailor. Lucas and Connor Bolton sailed together on “Flat Out” in the Mirror States and were recognised for giving it a good hard go.
Outstanding Contributor – This award recognises someone who has worked hard for the benefit of the Club, and it is a great pleasure to mention Doug Pianta yet again. In addition to his enthusiastic management of the bronze fleet, Doug worked hard to engage many trainee sailors who were non-sailors at the beginning of the season, to compete at a State level by the end of the season. Doug has also spent many hours repairing and fine-tuning Club boats, and can always be counted upon to offer coaching advice and organise spontaneous racing when casual sailors appear on the water.
Many thanks to Jim and Ida Bennett who donate a sum of money every year to the Club’s calendar of events. It is a great pleasure to award this sum to Doug this year.
